Join us for a hands-on Urban Apiary Tour + Work & Learn event, where we’ll be helping Mo Hives KC prepare for their incoming bee packages. This is a unique opportunity to get up close with urban beekeeping, learn about hive components, and participate in hands-on work that supports local pollinators.
What We’ll Be Doing
Apiary Tour – Explore the hives and learn about urban beekeeping
Bee Hive Prep – Unpack and assemble hive bodies, ensuring they're ready for their new residents
Suiting Up – Get comfortable with beekeeping suits and safety
Opening a Hive – Observe the fascinating inner workings of a hive
Site Selection – Understand where and how to place hives for success
Honey Tasting – Sample fresh honey in the GEHA Garden-to-Table Test Kitchen
Potluck Snacks – Bring a snack to share

10:00 AM – Apiary Tour (60 min)
11:00 AM – Suit Up & Equipment Overview (30 min)
11:30 AM – Hive Body Assembly & Site Selection (30 min)
12:00 PM – Hands-On Beekeeping Experience
1:30 PM – Honey Tasting + Potluck Snacks
What to Bring & Wear
Bee Suits: Mo Hives KC will provide adult-sized suits, but youth must bring their own. If you have your own, feel free to bring it.
Clothing: Wear long sleeves, long socks, closed-toe shoes, and tie up long hair. Avoid perfume, deodorant, or scented products, as they can attract bees.
